Discovered by legendary producer Timbaland, THE BLVCK BUTTAFLY is a singer, Children’s Emmy-Nominated songwriter, producer, dancer, and vocal arranger from Baltimore, Maryland who describers herself as the back sheep who is becoming the blueprint. She independently released the projects INTO THE COCOON (2021) and THE FORMATION (2023), the first two installments of her four-part sonic series, THE MAKINGS OF A BUTTAFLY. Her 2021 single “BALTIMORE” earned placement on Spotify’s official Global Club Music playlist, reaching listeners across numerous countries worldwide. In 2022, her music video for “GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS” landed rotation on BET Jams and Bet Soul. The following year, her songs “POSE,” “BALTIMORE,” and “THE WORKOUT” were featured on Bad Boys Texas on Zeus Network.
Beyond her own catalog, THE BLVCK BUTTAFLY has expanded her songwriting credits through collaborations with music producer Bud’da Anderson, contributing to placements on The Chi, Power Book III: Rasing Kanan, BMF and, and with the iconic children’s brand Sesame Street on the 2026 Children’s & Family Nominated project Sesame Workshop.
Wearing the ever-evolving titles of singer, songwriter, producer, dancer, and performer, the Baltimore native has cultivated the rare ability to build her career on her own terms.
Her artistic identity is shaped by a wide spectrum of musical icons. THE BLVCK BUTTAFLY draws inspiration from artists such as Usher, Beyonce, Missy Elliott, Michael Jackson, Aaliyah, Brandy, Mint Condition, SWV, and Bobby Caldwell. After growing tired of being teased for not knowing how to dance, she set out to teach herself. She sold candy at school to save enough money to buy VHS tapes so she could record music videos and study the choreography at home. When she surprised her mother and classmates with her dance skills at a school talent show, she earned the nickname “Baby Usher” from industry observers who noticed her potential early on. While she admired perfromers like Michael Jackson, N*SYNC, and B2K, it was Usher who ultimately became her long-distance mentor in movement and stage presence.
Songwriting, however, came from necessity. She often found that other writers struggled to understand her artistic vision, causing many to lose interest in writing for her. Refusing to abandon her dream, she began writing her own material. She immersed herself in poetry and studied the work of some of the industry’s most respected songwriters, inclduing Sean Garrett, Missy Elliott, Poo Bear, Max Martin, Muni Long, Diane Warren, Victoria Monet, Static Major, Babyface, Johntá Austin, Jermaine Dupri, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Pharrell Williams, Lil’Mo, adn LaShawn Daniels.
Rejection and criticism ultimately pushed THE BLVCK BUTTAFLY to become a fully self-contained artist. To strengthen her harmonies and vocal arrangements, she studied Brandy while reconnecting with her gospel roots through artists like The Clark Sisters and Kierra Sheard. When she wanted to record more music, she taught herself how to use digital audio workstation software so she could engineer her own sessions. When she wanted to release the production she heard in her mind, she began producing her own records. Once she realized that the lemons could become lemonade, she never stopped squeezing.
THE BLVCK BUTTAFLY is now preparing to release METAMORPHOSIS, the third installment of her sonic series. The project will take listeners on a sonic journey as her sound continues to evolve. Its first single, “IS IT ME (FANTASY),” marks a major milestone in her career, as it is the first release she has both written and produced entirely on her own. Alongside this project, she is also developing a collaborative body of work with South of France–based producer TellaX.
With her next chapter unfolding, THE BLVCK BUTTAFLY continues to emerge as a dynamic force whose creative vision is set to maker her one of the most exciting artist to shape the future of music.
